Know Before You Buy. Plan Before You Build.

A professional RF heatmap survey tells you exactly how many APs you need, where to place them, and what coverage you will get — before you spend a rupee on hardware.

What is a Heatmap Survey?

Using professional RF simulation software and your actual floor plan, we model how Wi‑Fi signals will behave in your specific environment — accounting for walls, glass, concrete, metal, and interference sources.

The result is a colour‑coded "heatmap" showing exactly where signal will be strong, where coverage gaps exist, and how many access points are needed to achieve full coverage.

Green = excellent signal · Red = coverage gap

Why It's Not Optional

Guessing AP placement is the #1 cause of Wi‑Fi failures.

Without a survey

  • AP count is guessed
  • Dead zones discovered after installation
  • Over‑buying hardware
  • No coverage baseline to test against

With Layerix survey

  • Exact AP count documented
  • Coverage guaranteed on paper before installation
  • Optimised BOM — no waste
  • Baseline to test against

What the Survey Produces

A comprehensive report you can take straight to procurement.

Floor‑plan AP placement map
Signal strength coverage heatmap
Bill of materials (AP count, models, PoE)
Channel & frequency plan
Security & SSID architecture recommendation
Full PDF report — ready for procurement

Survey Process

1

You share floor plans

AutoCAD, PDF, or even a clear photo of the architect's drawing.

2

We load into Ekahau / iBwave

Professional RF planning software.

3

Model walls & interference

Account for concrete, glass, metal, existing equipment.

4

Simulate AP placement

Multiple scenarios optimised for coverage and cost.

5

Validate on‑site (active survey)

For active surveys, we walk the site to measure.

6

Deliver full report

PDF with heatmaps, AP placement, BOM, and recommendations.

Predictive vs Active Survey

Predictive (Design Survey)

  • • Done using floor plans only
  • • No site visit required initially
  • • Ideal for new buildings / pre‑construction
  • • Faster turnaround (2–3 business days)
  • • Lower cost

Active (Validation Survey)

  • • Engineer walks the site with laptop + Wi‑Fi adapter
  • • Measures actual signal from deployed APs
  • • Ideal for troubleshooting or post‑deployment validation
  • • Produces real‑world heatmap data
  • • Recommended for complex or high‑density environments

Layerix recommends starting with a predictive survey and validating with an active survey post‑deployment for critical environments.

“Predictive survey saved a 3‑floor corporate client from purchasing 18 excess APs. Correct AP count: 34. Initial quote from another vendor: 52 APs. Saving: ₹4.2L in hardware alone.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do a heatmap survey for an existing building that's already occupied?

Yes. For occupied spaces, we conduct a passive site survey after hours or during low‑occupancy periods. We need access to the floor plan and approximately 2–4 hours per floor.

What floor plan format do you need?

AutoCAD (DWG), PDF, or even a clear photograph of the architect's drawing. We handle the rest.

How accurate is a predictive heatmap?

Very accurate for standard office environments. Concrete walls, server rooms, and glass partitions can affect real‑world signal, which is why we recommend an active validation survey for critical deployments.

Is the heatmap survey a paid service?

Yes, it is a professional engineering service. However, the cost is offset against your deployment project if you proceed with Layerix for installation.

How soon can you start?

Predictive surveys can begin within 2 business days of receiving your floor plans. On‑site active surveys are scheduled within 5–7 business days.

Do I need a heatmap survey for a small office?

For very small offices (2–3 rooms, low user count), a survey may be overkill. We offer a free consultation to determine if a survey is beneficial for your specific scenario.

What's included in the final report?

The report includes floor‑plan AP placement maps, signal strength heatmaps, recommended AP models and count, channel plan, PoE requirements, and a bill of materials. All presented in a ready‑to‑share PDF.

Can you use my existing floor plan if it's in a proprietary format?

We support most common formats: DWG, DXF, PDF, JPG, PNG. If you only have a paper drawing, we can scan and digitize it for an additional fee.

What's the difference between a predictive and an active survey?

Predictive is simulation‑based using floor plans; active involves an engineer walking the site with measuring equipment. Predictive is for planning, active for validation or troubleshooting.

Do I need to provide existing AP locations if I have them?

Yes, if you already have APs installed, providing their locations helps us model interference and recommend improvements. It's not mandatory but improves accuracy.
