About Online Instruments
Founded in 1994, Online Instruments is one of India's most respected audio-visual system integrators, with a 30-year legacy of engineering seamless AV experiences for enterprise clients. Today, the company operates across 15+ offices in 7 countries, employs over 750 specialists — including 300+ industry-accredited engineers — and has delivered 1,000+ successful projects for clients like Amazon, Siemens Healthineers, Accenture, Wipro, TCS, and RedHat.
Their solutions span unified communications, video conferencing, large event spaces, learning environments, digital signage, Network Operations Command Centers (NOC), and smart office deployments. In 2025, Online Instruments further expanded its global footprint by acquiring Level 3 Audiovisual, establishing a presence in the United States.
With an increasingly network-dependent AV portfolio — from AV-over-IP to cloud-managed video conferencing — Online Instruments recognised that deep networking knowledge is no longer optional for an AV engineer. It is essential.
The Challenge
Modern AV deployments are inseparable from network infrastructure. Video conferencing systems depend on QoS-configured switches. Digital signage runs over IP. AV-over-IP solutions like Dante, AVB, and NDI require engineers who understand VLANs, multicast, and bandwidth planning. A misconfigured network can make a technically flawless AV installation perform poorly — and diagnosing it requires skills that sit squarely in the networking domain.
Online Instruments' engineering teams are world-class in AV design and integration. But as their project scope expanded to include more complex, network-dependent deployments, they needed to bridge the gap between AV expertise and network fundamentals.
They turned to Layerix Networks — because they needed more than a vendor. They needed a networking team who could speak both languages: AV and IP.
Two Training Programmes — Built for AV Professionals
How Networks Work — Foundations for AV Engineers
The first training programme focused on building a solid foundation. Many AV engineers work daily with network-connected equipment but have never had formal networking training. Session 1 closed that gap — systematically and practically.
Network Fundamentals
OSI model, TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnets, VLANs — explained through the lens of AV system behaviour.
Switching & Routing for AV
How managed switches work, PoE standards (802.3af/at/bt), trunking, and inter-VLAN routing — critical for IP cameras, displays, and conferencing endpoints.
Network Products Deep-Dive
Hands-on coverage of enterprise-grade switches, access points, and routers used in AV deployment environments.
Cable & Physical Layer
Cat6A vs fibre, structured cabling standards, and how poor physical infrastructure silently degrades AV performance.
Using Networking in AV — Applied Skills for Real Deployments
The second programme built directly on Session 1 — moving from understanding how networks work to applying that knowledge in real AV project scenarios. The focus shifted to configuration, troubleshooting, and AV-specific network design.
AV-over-IP Networking
Configuring networks for Dante, NDI, and AVB — multicast handling, bandwidth planning, latency management, and IGMP snooping.
QoS for AV Traffic
Prioritising audio and video traffic on shared enterprise networks using DSCP marking and switch QoS policies.
Network Troubleshooting
Systematic diagnosis of AV failures caused by network issues — packet loss, DHCP conflicts, MTU mismatches, and more.
AV System Integration Best Practices
End-to-end network design principles for conferencing rooms, digital signage networks, NOC deployments, and large event spaces.
Our Training Methodology
Both sessions were designed specifically for AV professionals — not generic IT audiences. Every concept was anchored to an AV use case, so engineers could immediately connect the networking principle to a problem or scenario they recognise from their own deployments.
AV-Contextualised Learning
Every networking concept — from VLANs to QoS — was taught through AV scenarios: conferencing rooms, digital signage, NOC setups, and live event deployments.
Hands-On & Practical
Real equipment, real configurations. Engineers practised on actual switches, APs, and cabling — not just slides. Mistakes were made and fixed in a safe environment.
Delivered by Working Engineers
Layerix trainers are active network engineers with Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, and Check Point certifications — not classroom instructors. They bring live project experience into every session.
Topics Covered Across Both Sessions
Training Outcomes
Delivered across Dec 2024 and Mar 2025
From networking fundamentals to AV-specific implementation
Troubleshooting of network-related AV failures on-site
Engineers designing networks for AV deployments independently
Cross-team collaboration between AV and IT departments
Product knowledge on switches, APs, and cabling used in AV environments
Why Online Instruments Chose Layerix — Twice
Online Instruments works with the world's most demanding enterprise clients — Amazon, Siemens, Accenture, TCS, RedHat. Their projects span 7 countries and involve some of the most complex AV deployments in India. They could have chosen any trainer. They chose Layerix — and came back for a second programme three months later.
The reason is simple: Layerix engineers don't teach networking in the abstract. They deploy enterprise networks every day — structured cabling, enterprise WiFi, firewalls, managed services — for organisations across Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. That practical, on-the-ground experience is what makes the training immediately applicable for AV engineers who encounter network problems in the field.
The return engagement in March 2025 reflects the tangible value the first training delivered — and Online Instruments' commitment to continuously upskilling their team as AV and networking continue to converge.
"This partnership demonstrates Layerix's commitment to not just deploying networks, but to building technical capability within organisations. As AV and IP continue to converge, the engineers who understand both will define the next generation of enterprise deployments."
