About Kembhavi Architecture Foundation

Kembhavi Architecture Foundation (KAF) is one of India's most diverse and successful architectural and design practices. Founded in 1972 by Nalini and Sharad Kembhavi in Hubli, Karnataka, the firm has grown into a multi-generational practice with a strong presence in Bengaluru. Today, KAF is led by six co‑principal architects, including Indrajit and Nita Kembhavi, who manage the Bengaluru office, while Soumya and Parth Kembhavi oversee operations in Hubli and the design-build division, August Constructions.

KAF's extensive portfolio spans luxury residences, large townships, commercial spaces, airports, healthcare facilities, hospitality projects, and institutional buildings across India and internationally, including projects in Kenya and the USA. The firm is renowned for its eco‑sensitive approach to design and is among India's pioneering green architecture firms, having won numerous awards, including "Architect of the Year, South India" in 2015.

With a growing team of architects, designers, and project managers, KAF required a modern, reliable, and secure digital infrastructure to support its collaborative workflows, protect its intellectual property, and enable seamless communication across its Bengaluru and Hubli offices.

The Challenge — Enabling Collaborative Architecture in a Digital Age

As KAF's project portfolio expanded, the firm faced several IT infrastructure challenges common to creative and design-led enterprises:

  • Legacy cabling and network: Existing Cat5e cabling and unmanaged switches caused frequent slowdowns, impacting the transfer of large design files (CAD, BIM, renderings) and collaboration between teams.
  • Inadequate surveillance: Limited CCTV coverage left sensitive areas — design studios, server rooms, and archives — vulnerable to unauthorized access.
  • Unreliable WiFi: Spotty wireless coverage across the Bengaluru office disrupted presentations and remote client meetings, affecting productivity.
  • Network segmentation: No separation between internal design networks and guest WiFi, posing security risks and potential intellectual property exposure.

Layerix Networks was engaged to conduct a complete overhaul of KAF's digital infrastructure — from the physical cabling to the active network and security layers — with minimal disruption to the firm's day-to-day operations.

The Scope — A Future-Ready Digital Backbone for a Design Studio

Layerix Networks delivered a turnkey solution covering:

Structured Cabling

Cat6 structured cabling across all workstations, meeting rooms, and AV zones — certified for gigabit speeds and future 10G upgrades. Cable management racks, patch panels, and face plates installed with professional labelling for easy maintenance.

Surveillance System

High-definition IP cameras positioned at studio entrances, server rooms, archive areas, and outdoor parking — connected to a central NVR with 30+ days of continuous recording.

Managed Switches

Enterprise-grade managed switches deployed with VLAN segmentation — isolating design networks, guest WiFi, and surveillance traffic. QoS policies prioritise design file transfers and video conferencing traffic.

Enterprise WiFi

Cloud-managed access points positioned for blanket coverage across the office — enabling roaming for laptops and mobile devices, with dedicated SSIDs for staff, guests, and IoT devices.

The entire deployment was executed during off-hours and weekends to ensure zero disruption to KAF's design projects and client commitments.

Multi‑Phase Delivery

Phase 1Q3 2025 — Structured Cabling & Core Network

Laying the Foundation – Cat6 Cabling & Server Room Setup

Phase 1 focused on replacing the legacy cabling with a professional, certified Cat6 infrastructure. Layerix engineers surveyed the office layout, planned cable runs through existing conduits, and installed new racks in the server room.

Cat6 Cabling

End-to-end Cat6 cabling from the main distribution rack to every workstation, meeting room, and AV zone — certified for gigabit performance.

Server Room Upgrade

New equipment rack installed with cable management, patch panels, and grounding — ready for active network components.

Professional Labelling

Every cable end, patch panel port, and wall plate labelled with a consistent scheme — reducing troubleshooting time significantly.

Minimal Disruption

All cabling work scheduled during off-hours and weekends, ensuring KAF's design teams could continue their work without interruption.

Phase 2Q4 2025 — Surveillance & WiFi Deployment

24×7 Security & High‑Performance Wireless

Phase 2 brought security and wireless connectivity. Layerix deployed HD CCTV cameras at strategic locations and installed enterprise WiFi access points for blanket coverage.

HD CCTV Installation

IP cameras positioned at studio entrances, server rooms, archive areas, and parking — providing comprehensive surveillance with 30+ days of recording.

Central NVR Setup

Network Video Recorder configured for continuous recording, motion alerts, and remote access — enabling KAF's management to monitor the office from anywhere.

Enterprise WiFi

Cloud-managed access points installed for blanket coverage — enabling seamless roaming for laptops and mobiles across the office, with dedicated SSIDs for staff and guests.

WiFi Optimisation

RF survey and channel planning performed to eliminate dead zones and optimise performance for video conferencing and large file transfers.

Phase 3Q4 2025 — Switch Configuration & Handover

Network Segmentation, Testing & Documentation

The final phase involved programming of managed switches, end‑to‑end testing, user training, and delivery of complete documentation.

Managed Switch Configuration

VLANs created for staff network, guest WiFi, surveillance, and IoT devices — with QoS policies prioritising video conferencing and design file transfers.

System Testing

End-to-end performance testing, WiFi speed and roaming tests, camera coverage validation, and NVR playback verification.

User Training

On‑site session for IT staff: WiFi access management, NVR playback and camera adjustments, and basic network troubleshooting.

Documentation Package

As‑built cabling diagram, IP address scheme, device credentials, warranty certificates, and test reports delivered in digital format.

The Customer Win — A Digital Backbone Built for Design Excellence

Kembhavi Architecture Foundation now operates with:

  • Reliable, high-speed connectivity: Cat6 structured cabling and managed switches eliminate bottlenecks, enabling real-time collaboration on complex design files.
  • Complete security visibility: HD cameras and central NVR cover every critical zone, protecting intellectual property and ensuring safety.
  • Seamless wireless experience: Enterprise WiFi with optimised coverage supports 50+ concurrent users, enabling fluid mobility and remote client engagements.
  • Future‑ready foundation: VLAN segmentation, QoS, and professional documentation make it easy to scale and integrate new technologies.

Why Digital Infrastructure Matters in Architecture & Design

For architecture and design firms, the digital workspace is as critical as the physical one. Gigabit connectivity enables real-time collaboration on CAD, BIM, and rendering files; robust surveillance protects valuable intellectual property; and high-performance WiFi ensures seamless client presentations and remote teamwork.

Layerix's approach uses certified components, professional installation practices, and zero‑disruption methodologies to deliver a digital backbone that is fast, secure, and future‑ready — empowering creative professionals to focus on design excellence.

"A design studio's network must be as inspiring as its architecture — invisible, intuitive, and infinitely capable."
