What is ANPR / LPR?
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) — also called License Plate Recognition (LPR) — uses specialised cameras and optical character recognition (OCR) to read vehicle number plates automatically. When a vehicle approaches, the camera captures the plate, the OCR engine converts the image to text, and the system checks the plate against a database (whitelist, blacklist, visitor list). If authorised, it triggers a boom barrier, gate, or alert — all without human intervention.
